Joanna Wigginton, Textile Artist

Joanna Wigginton, a textile and paper artist, lives in northern California. She is a retired midwife, educator, and has been described as an unstoppable creative force. A co-founder of the Caspar Creek Learning Center, she led this thriving, alternative learning environment organization for over 20 years.nt.

Since 2017, Wigginton has been involved with Flockworks’ Art@Schools program (a nonprofit organization that supports community building through the arts) and led a successful strategy that creatively engages children, supports teachers, and inspires everyone. She has mentored and partnered with the organization’s school resource artist to create a successful art studio program that both children and teachers laud. In addition, through Flockworks, Wigginton has participated in gallery exhibits, curated quilt arts shows, showcased children’s art, and shown her textiles and book arts.

Wigginton likes to share her passion and belief that every human is an artist and loves to create opportunities for anyone to explore the power of creativity in any form. She often hosts informal workshops in Japanese stab binding, basket making, art quilting techniques, and collage exploration. She attributes her success to to her greatest teachers - her mother who she says was an endless font of patiences, and her children and grandchildren who continue to enlarge her world views and experiences.
