At age five, I was promoted from kindergarten to first grade art. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be an artist. Obsessed with drawing mushrooms, giraffes and “eyeball people,” I later became interested in painting, mixed media and photography. I received a BFA from Calvin University, and have been represented by galleries in Michigan, Santa Fe, Chicago, Aurora, Illinois and California. I have shown in a number of galleries on the North Coast from Fort Bragg to Gualala. I currently show at the Artists’ Collective in Elk and work from my home studio in Fort Bragg, California. I have participated in over fifty group and solo exhibitions.

I am also a writer and have authored three children’s books. My most recent books are for adults—daily devotionals based on my interactions with nature, Meditations on Mendocino, Reflections on the Fox River and Beyond, and a spiritual book entitled Dialogues with the Divine. Additionally, I write a weekly blog: The Nature of Spirituality.

Taking inspiration from folk art, nature and religious grottos, my “Little Souls” series began as a foot-tall, three-dimensional house fully encrusted with items I had collected since childhood. It then evolved into the version you see here: framed found object assemblages.

I believe that each of us has a soul. It is our essence. Our individuality. Every Little Soul I create is unique and patiently waits to be discovered by the soul to whom it speaks. My hope is that the right person will recognize the artworks that resonate with their own soul.
